Need of society : A stable and secure community life is necessary for the development of the individual as well as society. In the nomadic stage, man did not have this stability and security.
- In the course of thousands of years, man had evolved from wandering (nomadic) way of life to a settled social life.
- A stable and secure community life is necessary for the development of individual and society.
- When man had realised there was security in living in a group, people came together to develop an organised way of life. This was the motivation for the creation of society.
Social nature of man :
- Man felt need for rules for the smooth functioning of social life. Man’s social life was earlier regulated by customs, traditions and values and later by the laws.
- Man is social by nature who likes to live with others.
- Fulfilment of physical needs of food, clothing and shelter bring stability in our life. Our emotional and psychological needs are fulfilled by living in a family and spending time with relatives and friends.
- There is mutual dependence within the society as no individual can by himself fulfill all his needs.
- Every individual has some qualities and capabilities which are developed by living in the society.
Our development :
- We gradually learn language our ability to think and expresses thoughts and emotions develop in the society.
- Our artistic skills, too, develop as we receives encouragement from others.
- Society helps in the development of our emotional capabilities and the power to think.
- Society provides the opportunity for expressing our thoughts and feelings.
- Our artistic and other talents development takes place in society.
- Singers, musicians, artists, scientists, adventurers, social workers can all develop their qualities further because of the backing and encouragement of society.
Society : A society is formed when people come together to achieve certain common objectives. Society is social relationships and dependence on one another and sharing.
Constituents of the Society :
- Men and women, grown-ups, old people and young children together constitute the society.
- Various groups, institutions and organisations are also constituents of the society.
Q. Why is a crowd not regarded as society ?
Because people in the crowd have not come together to achieve certain common objectives.
