Answer the following questions in brief.

1. What do you understand by ‘fundamental rights’ ?

Answer

Certain rights are known as the ‘Fundamental Rights’ as these rights are given by the Constitution. The government cannot make any law that violates these rights. It is imperative for everybody to abide by these rights.

2. Name the awards that are conferred by the Government upon people for their distinguished contribution in different fields.

Answer

The government confers civil honours such as Padmashree, Padmabhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna for the distinguished service in the different fields.

3. Why is it prohibited to employ children under 14 years of age in hazardous places?

Answer

(1) The constitution of India has conferred the Right against exploitation.

(2) Child labour is a form of exploitation.

(3) In order to save children from this exploitation, the constitution has prohibited the employment of children below the age of 14 years in hazardous places of employment.

(4) Children cannot be employed or made to work in factories and mines.

4. Why has the Constitution given equal rights to all Indian citizens ?

Answer

  • Our Constitution has adopted the principle of equality.
  • The State cannot discriminate against individuals on the grounds of religion, caste, race, sex and place of birth.
  • This will provide opportunity to every individual to raise his/her social status.

For these reasons, the Constitution has given equal rights to all citizens of India.

(1) No one gets rights at birth.

Answer

Everyone gets rights at birth.

(2) Government can deprive you of a job by discriminating on the basis of religion, sex, place of birth.

Answer

The government cannot deprive you of a job by discriminating on the basis of religion, sex and place of birth.
