(A) Railways and roadways

Answer :

Railways Roadways
Railways are a relatively quick means of transportation when compared to roadways. Compared to railways, roadways are comparatively slower mode of transportation.
Compared to roadways, the network of railways is less dense. Compared to railways, the network of roadways is denser.
Railways do not create a problem of air pollution. Roadways create a problem of air pollution.

(B) Transportation and communication

Transportation Communication
Transportation refers to the service that makes it possible for people and products to move from one location to another. Communication refers to the system or process that makes information exchange possible.
Rickshaw, truck, train, goods train, boat, ships, helicopter, aeroplane, etc. are the means of transportation. Newspapers, radio, television, mobile phone, internet, etc. are the means of communication.
Transportation-related risks include air pollution, noise pollution, traffic accidents, and traffic jams. The threats like technical issues, cybercrimes etc. are associated with communication.

(C) Conventional and modern means of communication.

Letter, newspapers, radio, television are the conventional means of communication. Mobile phone, internet, etc. are the modern means of communication.
Conventional means of communication may not facilitate the direct interaction between the sender and the receivers of information. Modern means of communication facilitates the direct interaction between the sender and the receivers of information.

(1) ‘Newspapers are used for communication’. Explain the statement.

Answer :

  • Newspapers publish news about education, culture, social issues, politics, economic events, and so on.
  • Newspapers are a low-cost mode of communication. Newspapers spread information to large numbers of people at once. Newspapers are utilised for communication in this fashion.

(2) Explain how T.V. is a cheap means of communication.

Answer :

  • Television broadcasts bulletins, programmes, serials, and other content relevant to entertainment, education, culture, social issues, politics, economic events, weather conditions, sports, and so on.
  • Television allows information to be broadcast to a large number of people at a rapid pace. In this way, television is a low-cost mode of communication.

(3) What types of communications can be done through mobiles ?

The following types of communication can be done through mobiles :

  • Direct calling system allows for verbal-oral contact.
  • Using a messaging system, you can communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Using numerous apps for verbal and nonverbal communication (applications).
  • Audio-visual communication via video conferencing and video calling.
